The Real Reason Why You’re Not Losing Weight

There is so many weight loss miracles out there. Some, advocated by, otherwise reputable physicians, these things are selling false promises and doing a disservice for people. So, the usual strategy for weight loss.

I had a handful of patients that I would see that had lost weight and kept it off over years. And so admittedly I was curious whether it was a diet or an exercise program or a supplement or something like that, that was the secret to losing weight and keeping it off.

And what I found was there was a secret to it, but it wasn’t that big of a secret in retrospect. The interesting thing that I discovered the secret was they all said they did the same thing. Like they use different words, but the principles of how they lost the weight and kept it off were the same over and over.

“I just quit eating junk food”. Or “I started eating less food” or “I started exercising” or some combination of those things. It almost always that is going to be the answer. And if you have doubts about this, I’d encourage you to. Anybody you come across who has lost weight and kept it off over a long period of time, how they did it, and you will find the same thing that I found as well.

And this is supported by medical research. This is one of my favorite weight loss studies, and it’s called the national weight control registry. This is over 10,000 people lost weight and kept it off the average member of this registry. I mean, this is just remarkable, lost 66 pounds and kept it off over five years.

Yeah. When they ask these people, okay, how did you do it? 98% of them changed their food intake and 94% became more active. So, the secret to lasting weight loss is in a sense, there is no secret it’s doing what we know works. So how are we going to stop this madness?

It’s a skill and getting healthier is a skill. So, when you use the right tool, when you use a hammer to drive the nail, all of a sudden, it is less miserable.
